Hermanos y hermanas, ver a The Jay Vons en acción es creer. Un concierto de The Jay Vons es todo un acontecimiento. Las luces golpean el escenario. De repente, la música estalla, con presencia y vitalidad. En seguida, el ritmo se apodera de ti, penetrándote en el cráneo y en el estómago. Algo dentro de ti te impulsa a moverte. Este grupo no pasa inadvertido: un aspecto cuidado —pelo acicalado— y limpio. Sus pasos de baile son desenvueltos y gráciles. Aporreando su bajo Harmony custom tenemos a Benny Trokan. Su sonido grave e insistente es la marca de la casa de The Jay Vons: un ritmo machacón y dinámico. Dándole fuerte a la batería está Mikey —El guardián del Soul— Post. Desempeña dos tareas simultáneas: voz y batería. Ese latigazo omnipresente y cautivador proviene de la singular guitarra solista de Mike —The Cat— Catanese. Al órgano tenemos a Dave Amels. Afable, fuerte y curtido, la especialidad de Dave es hacer daño. La voz solista se reparte entre Ben y Mike, pero a veces le dan a Mikey una merecida oportunidad de brillar por su cuenta. Una buena descripción de sus canciones sería tildarlas de rompecorazones bailables. Mientras te deslizas por la pista de baile, tus ojos se llenarán de lágrimas. En este single, It Was Wrong To Love You b/w Ghoulin’ (La Castanya 2015), podréis comprobar que The Jay Vons suenan en el escenario igual que en sus discos. No utilizan músicos de estudio. Son lo que son.

Brothers and Sisters, to witness The Jay Vons in action is to believe. A personal appearance by The Jay Vons is a happening. The stage lights pop on. Suddenly music explodes alive and present. Soon the beats into you, penetrating skull and belly. Something inside has got to move. You notice this group: clean cut —groomed hair— neat. Their steps are smooth and graceful. Thumping on his custom Harmony bass ax is Benny Trokan. His insistent bottom sound produces The Jay Vons’ trademark: heavy, driving rhythm. Banging away on drums is Mikey —Custodian of Soul— Post. He keeps two things working: mouth and drums. That haunting, everriding whang comes from the unique lead guitar of Mike —The Cat— Catanese. On organ is Dave Amels. Personable, strong and seasoned, Dave’s forte is the hurting kind. Lead vocals rotate between Ben and Mike, but sometimes Mikey is given a well-deserved solo spot. Their songs would best be described as danceable heartbreakers. As you shuffle across the floor your eyes will fill with tears. On their forth-coming single It Was Wrong To Love You b/w Ghoulin' (La Castanya 2015) you will notice that The Jay Vons sound on-stage just like their records. They use no studio musicians. They are what they are.
We will be able to see them for the first time in Europe this December while we wait for their debut LP on WICK Records / Daptone Records next 2016.
